Bankruptcy on Your Report? Make Sure It's Reported Right.

A bankruptcy is supposed to give you a fresh start. Too often, the accounts it covered keep reporting balances and late payments as if nothing changed. We review the bankruptcy and every account tied to it and dispute anything reported wrong.

How Bankruptcy Shows Up on Your Credit

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a bankruptcy can be reported for up to 10 years from the filing date. In practice, the major bureaus remove a completed Chapter 13 after seven years, and a Chapter 7 stays for up to 10.

The accounts included in your bankruptcy matter just as much. Discharged accounts should show a zero balance and be marked as included in bankruptcy. When they still show a balance or new late payments, your score takes a hit it should not.

Bankruptcy Reporting Errors We Find

Bankruptcy reporting involves many creditors and many updates, so mistakes are common. Here is what we look for:

  • Discharged accounts still showing a balance
  • Accounts not marked as included in bankruptcy
  • Late payments reported after the filing date
  • The wrong chapter, filing date, or discharge date
  • A dismissed or discharged case reported incorrectly
  • Accounts that are not yours

Bankruptcy Reporting Disputes: Common Questions

Can a bankruptcy be removed from my credit report?

If the bankruptcy record is inaccurate or cannot be verified, it can be disputed. An accurate, verified bankruptcy can legally stay for the full reporting period. Removal is not guaranteed.

How long does a bankruptcy stay on my report?

Up to 10 years from the filing date for a Chapter 7. The bureaus generally remove a completed Chapter 13 after seven years.

Can I rebuild credit after bankruptcy?

Yes. Cleaning up errors on the accounts tied to your bankruptcy, then adding positive payment history, is how most people rebuild.

How long does it take?

Each round of disputes usually takes about 30 days per bureau. Our FASTRAK program delivers results in as little as 7 to 21 days. Our Monthly Plan typically runs 3 to 9 months. Individual results vary.

What does it cost?

Our Monthly Plan is $250 to start, then $150 per month. FASTRAK is $899 one-time. We never charge per deletion.
